Depend on God
2003 : Week 17 | Website Version
oday is a wonderful day for this site; it’s the first day we publish a devotion submitted by a woman. It’s been amazing watching the site continue to grow and reach people. Equally as exciting for us, is the willingness our readers have shown to come forward with messages. In fact, we currently have six other submissions from our readers: two are by woman. It’s a blessing to see our sisters in Christ coming forward. We’re all one family united under God, but we’re all so different. We all have a different story. We pray you continue to step forward and share them.
Today’s message is by Becky Hearn. Becky has been saved since June 1993; she had many trials to deal with while growing up. She had a period of rebellion while she was in college, but God, pulled her through. God reminded her that she existed for him, and that’s made all the difference. Becky enjoys writing, singing and watching movies. She attends Crossroads Ministry in Normal, IL, and she’s a blessing to have in our congregation. We think her message will make you reflect on your relationship with God.
Isaiah 12:2 as revealed by the Holy Spirit to Becky Hearn...
God really spoke to me in this verse. I have been going through some
tough times since I moved to Bloomington last May. I knew it could always
be worse, but it was still pretty upsetting from time to time.
It's funny how we, or at least I, often rely on God for the big things,
but we don't really expect an answer, or we expect Him to say, "I didn't want
you to go that big! Let's tone it down a little." God, being as
graceful and merciful as He is, humbles us and shows us that He will
answer in bigger ways than we could have ever even imagined! We
always limit Him to the here and now and this dimension, but God is so much
greater than that!
Then, even though God answered our "big" prayer with an even bigger
answer, we tend not to rely on Him for the little things. We pray
briefly, expecting the usual response to a daily activity or
something miniscule and common. However, we're surprised when God switches
things around and shows us His awesome power.
Do we really mean it when we say we will trust Him and not be afraid? Is
our heart being completely honest when we say the Lord is our strength and
our song?
We need to depend on Him fully, for the little and the big things - from the bread on our table to the money for NYC mission trips. He does care about
the little things, like our slight discouragement from time to time, and He
wants us to ask Him for His help. We need Him to be our strength. Then,
when He answers above and beyond our expectations (because He always does,
but not always the way we thought), we need to sing our song. He is our
song and others need to hear us praise Him because it will draw them to Him.
God is so awesome! Let's go out and sing this week! To quote a hymn,
"Praise Him. Praise Him.
Jesus our Blessed Redeemer.
...Tell of His Excellent Greatness."
* A faithful friend of Crossroads and Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Roy Mansfield has submitted next week’s devotion. If you know Roy or have heard him preach, you’ll understand that he has an amazing love for the Lord. He is a blessing to all those around him, and next week’s message will be a blessing to you.
