Poems to the Father
2007 : August  |  Website Version

Today we share two short and beautiful poems that express the longing desire for more then this world can offer us as Christians. Yes, there are many times of great joy, love and happiness for us here, but it’s as if, even in those times, we know the Lord has much more for us. We trod on with our lives, but in our thoughts is the hopeful expectation of the perfection we will one day find in Heaven.

Becky Hearn has submitted our first poem. Becky tells us that when she’s reading Philippians 1:23 and 24, she often wonders what the author’s thoughts may have been. Clearly, he longed for his home in Heaven, but he knew he was of use to the cause of Christ on earth.  All the times he was imprisoned, all the times he was beaten and all the times when his heart may have become downtrodden…perhaps he might have felt something like she has expressed in her poem.

The second poem comes to us from A.B. Hurley, and again, it is an expression of the often-hollow feelings we can have on earth. Two different poems – two different writers, yet both are expressing the universal longing for perfection and healing we find in Jesus. We hope these two poems are a blessing to you…

Take Me Home, by Becky Hearn

Father, give me Heaven,
a much sweeter place than this –
this fallen world
full of empty thoughts
and cruel pains we so choose.

Take me home
to my noble King,
who can hold me close
and fulfill greater desires
than my wildest imagination
has ever dared to dream.

Give me Heaven,
my one true Home,
where I can see the Splendor
of Your Glory – and praise You
face to face.

Take me Home and let me sing
of praises for which I know no words.
Let me sing there,
where this fallen world
cannot corrupt my praises –
there where You are…
and I long to be.

Healing Kiss, by A.B. Hurley

I'm searching:
looking deep within,
longing for the healing,
to take away this pain.
Confusion surrounds me;
tears blind my eyes.
I'm reaching out to you,
but you keep on walking by.
Don't leave me here,
to face this all alone.
I am weary,
and my strength is almost gone.
Come back to me.
Come and hold me close to you.
Kiss me with your lips,
and heal me through and through.

Philippians 1:23-24 (ESV)

23  I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.
24  But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.
