Jesus - Part 9, The Healer is for all Nations
2004 : Week 5 | Printer Friendly Version
We have been studying this verse from the Gospel of
Luke, and today we’ll view this passage for another revelation it
gives us. The passage shows us that Jesus Christ came for people
from all nations.
In our Week 2 - 2003 Devotion, The Woman
at the Well, the Lord used a Samaritan Woman to make an important
point. He is doing a similar thing in this story, by using a Samaritan
man. The Jews and Samaritans did not like each other. Jesus, being
Jewish and growing up in that culture, would have known that, but
Jesus doesn’t differentiate between Samaritan and Jew when healing
the lepers. He doesn’t ask for a passport or birth certificate before
He heals them. Men were crying out for Him, “Jesus, Master, have
mercy on us!” Jesus hears their cries and heals all of them: the
Samaritan included.
Jesus
doesn’t hide the fact that He has healed someone who wasn’t Jewish.
Instead, He draws attention to this point when He say’s, “Was
no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?”
Further, He draws attention to the fact that the foreigner was the
only one who came back to praise God. He is teaching us that the
foreigner is the one with the right attitude of thanksgiving. The
other lepers may have been Jewish, but they lacked the right attitude
of praise towards God.
Jewish views towards the Samaritans made them think that God would
not love them, but God has a different perspective. His love extends
to all that are written in The Book of Life; whether you’re from
Korea, Egypt, Canada, Somalia, The United States, China, Germany,
South Africa or Poland, the love of God will reach you, if you are
one of His. The story of the lepers is an affirmation of this Bible
truth; Jesus Christ came for people of all nations:
From Isaiah 56:6-7 (NASB)
6 "Also the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD,
To minister to Him, and to love the name of the LORD,
To be His servants, every one who keeps from profaning the sabbath
And holds fast My covenant;
7 Even those I will bring to My holy mountain
And make them joyful in My house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable
on My altar;
For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples."
After Christ’s resurrection - From Luke 24:46-47 (NASB)
46 …He said to them, "Thus it is written,
that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the
third day,
47 and that repentance for forgiveness
of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning
from Jerusalem.
From Galatians 3:7-8 (NASB)
7 Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith
who are sons of Abraham.
8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify
the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham,
saying, "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU."
May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you today
and always…

Luke 17: 12-19
12 As He entered a village, ten leprous men who stood at a distance met Him;
13 And they raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14 When He saw them, He said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were going, they were cleansed.
15 Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice,
16 And he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine-where are they?
18 “Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?”
19 And He said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has made you well."
