If God is for us, who is against us?
2004 : Week 44 | Printer Friendly Version
Before our message today, we wanted to congratulate all the Americans who voted in these elections. The turn out was outstanding, and the American people were engaged in the issues. It’s the way it’s supposed to be; people should be taking an active role in their government.
This week’s message is sent as an encouragement, no matter what spiritual state you are in. As another summer fades into the distance and the cold of winter creeps in, we can start feeling physically down and lethargic. You hear people complain about this time of year regularly, and they point out how much they dislike starting the day in a dark morning and coming home when it’s dark in the evening. In the next couple of months, it can be difficult to keep our physical energy up, and as our physical energy goes down, sometimes our emotional and mental energies dwindle as well.
As the darkness of winter creeps in, remember that it’s only the darkness of winter creeping in. If you’re a believer, the light of God continues to shine down on you, and He loves you always.
When a crisis hits us, it can be easy for us to lose our focus on God, and we can believe that the darkness of our fallen world will win. Things that shouldn’t cause us much concern can be magnified, and we can feel out of sorts because of this confluence of circumstances. These are just feelings however, and there is no truth in them. Keep your spirit strong by resting in the Lord. If your circumstances are wonderful, then thank Him in prayer and meditation daily and enjoy the blessings He has showered you with. If you are in a difficult situation, then rest in Him knowing that He has not changed. God is in control. He still loves you, and His love for you is eternal and eternally unchanging. This is the promise of today’s verses; nothing can come between you and the love of God: absolutely nothing.
As we see in watching our seasons change, any darkness and cold that falls upon our world is temporary; the light will return. If you’re in a difficult place, remember that it will pass. Like the coldness and darkness of winter, one day, your difficult circumstances will melt away, and you will find yourself standing in the light of a beautiful summer’s day. Until that day, rest easy, the Lord is with you:

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?
33 Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies;
34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED."
37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
