Elijah’s Challenge – Part 11, Meditate on the Bible
2004 : Week 41  |  Website Version

This seemed like an appropriate time to remind everyone of the importance of deep, prayerful meditation on the Bible. When this Site first went live, we encouraged everyone to spend time everyday with the Lord. God wants us to take time away from our hectic lives to spend it with Him. Our modern world is full things to distract us from Him: bills, traffic, TV, friends, family and our jobs all pressure us and often leave us little time for God. That’s not the way God wants it, and God calls us back to rest in Him.

Again, we remind and encourage you to spend quiet time with God. Find a quiet spot where you pray and read the Bible daily. How much time you spend doing so is between God and you. You might consider reading the Bible every morning, since it will give you knowledge, strength and courage for the day's challenges. We pray that you don’t rush your time of Bible study. Don’t be in a hurry to get through it; be in a hurry to get to it. There is so much within the Bible for us to learn, and if we don’t take the time to read it slowly and thoughtfully, we could miss so many lessons from God.

This series on Elijah will help to make the point about how much information the Bible contains for us. We have one more message in the “Elijah’s Challenge” series; when it’s finished, the series will contain 12 messages. Did you realize that all of these messages are taken from less then two chapters of the Bible? We have taken the basis for this study from parts of 1 Kings chapters 18 and 19 exclusively. True, we have referenced other parts of the Bible to repeat, enhance or amplify the points the Lord is trying to teach us in 1 Kings, but the focus has been this small portion of the Bible.

Less then two chapters of God’s word has given us pages of information about life and how to deal with it. Further, our devotions didn’t contain all the lessons these chapters offer; there are many more. We’re sure that the Holy Spirit revealed different things to you as you read these simple devotions. We are simply human, but the Holy Spirit was there to guide, enlighten, educate and illuminate you: so much fruit, from such a small plot of land…

That’s the message for today; the Bible is full of infinite wisdom, and you should meditate on it reverently and slowly. Digest the contents with your heart, soul and mind and see the sweet blessings the Lord has deposited within.

It’s good to go to church and it’s good to have fellowship with other Christians, but God wants more then that. He wants us to crave deep, prayerful, meditation and fellowship with Him. We should long to be close to Him and despise anything that tries to come between us. He wants us to learn about Him, and there is no better way to do that then by spending prayerful time in the Bible. Don’t take it from us, go directly to the source, if you’d like to see how important God thinks His Word is:

8 "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
 Joshua 1:8 (NASB)

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you today and always…
