A Time for Reflection
2004 : Week 1  |  Website Version

Traditionally, the ushering in of a New Year is a time when many people make resolutions. They hope that, perhaps in this New Year, they might adhere to them. Everyone reading this has probably promised to do something differently in the upcoming year: lose weight, work out, save money, spend less, buy a new car or get a new job etc... The root of these resolutions is a desire to change something about ourselves or our current circumstances. It’s a wonderful idea to stop and take stock of where we are and what our current situation is; it’s only by reflection that we can discern where we are and where we are headed.

However, while we spend much time looking at the material circumstances in our lives, do we spend time reflecting on our spiritual state? How much time did we spend worrying about how fat we were in the past year? Did we spend half as much time worrying about how close we were to God?

Maybe we can change that this year. Perhaps we could all use this time of the year to take stock of where we are spiritually. When we look back on the year that passed, do we find we spent enough time in prayer? Did we read the Bible as much as we wanted to? Did we spend time trying to memorize Bible verses? Did we learn more about our God? What is the current standing of our relationship with God? After all, God wants us to have fellowship with Him, so we should work hard at that relationship.

Today’s verse reveals that spending time with the Lord blesses us with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. These are blessings that the Holy Spirit plants in our hearts, souls and minds through His Divine revelation. These blessings are great gifts from God:

Let’s promise ourselves that when 2005 begins we will be in a better spiritual state then we are today. Let’s have spent a year in greater Bible study. Let’s have spent a year in deeper prayer with our God. Let’s have spent a year falling deeper in love with Him. These are the resolutions we should be focusing on as Christians. Please don’t misunderstand us. We are not suggesting you neglect your physical well being. Contrary, please make sure you take steps to be in good health. However, do not ignore your spiritual well being. In the end, as our bodies fade away, our soul will remain, so let’s make sure it’s in outstanding, Godly, shape.

The 2004 goals for this Website will be the same as when we started it: to share the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to be led by the Holy Spirit and to glorify and exalt God. We continue to pray that the messages will be a blessing to all that read them. To that end, we humbly request that you would keep our Website, the messengers who post here and their messages in your prayers. Through your prayers, we will have the perseverance to continue to exalt our God.

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you today and always…

7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 Guarding the paths of justice, and He preserves the way of His godly ones.
9 Then you will discern righteousness and justice and equity and every good course.
